In October of 2015 I got my first motorcycle. It’s something I have wanted for a long time. When I was younger I wanted a Harley. Nothing huge, just a Springer Soft tail. I didn’t grow up riding motorcycles. I actually had only been on one once before when my friends step brother left a little motorbike at his dad’s house for a summer. We crashed around on that a few times and it was fun. It wasn’t really a family sport so I did get back on one for the next 30 years.
In the meantime I got into Land Cruisers (chronicled here) and camping. This has been a good family past time. We have had 4 different models. I also build an off-road camping trailer. We have towed this all around the NW. It makes a great base camp for exploring. One of these trips took us to my first NW Overland Rally. This is where I was reconnected with motorcycles. The Overland Rally has combined with the Touratech Rally. It’s a great weekend with vendors, classes and comradery. My interest changed from cruisers to dual sports.
I look forward to traveling the Northwest on two wheels. There are so many on and off road opportunities around here. I’m not giving up the Land Cruisers. We still have the ’72 FJ 55 to finish this summer for my son.
